This March, a new pilgrimage and cultural-tourism route, Camino Dubrovnik, was opened, introducing a completely new dimension of Dubrovnik as a destination. In addition to enriching the offer of cultural and religious tourism, this route also brings new opportunities for business tourism, offering organisers an innovative incentive programme concept. It is a walking route connecting Dubrovnik and Međugorje, approximately 145 kilometres long, divided into seven daily stages. The route begins at the Church of St. James in Dubrovnik and ends at the Church of St. James in Međugorje, passing through Dubrovnik Primorje, Ravno, Neum, Čapljina and Čitluk.

As part of the wider European network of Camino routes, inspired by the legendary Camino de Santiago, this route offers a unique combination of active holiday, cultural heritage and personal experience, elements that are increasingly shaping modern incentive programmes.

What Camino Dubrovnik Offers to Pilgrims

Camino, or the Way of St. James, is one of the most famous pilgrimage traditions in Europe, more than a thousand years old. Today, it represents much more than a religious journey, it is a blend of physical challenge, personal development and sustainable tourism.

Camino Dubrovnik fully follows this philosophy. The route is clearly marked with the recognisable Camino signage, the yellow arrow and the scallop shell symbol of St. James, allowing for easy and safe navigation. Participants use a pilgrim passport during the journey, collecting stamps at various checkpoints such as churches, local establishments and other points along the route. These stamps serve not only as a souvenir but also as proof of the journey completed.

The route is typically completed over seven days, with approximately 3.5 days of walking through Croatia and 3.5 days through Bosnia and Herzegovina. The landscape constantly changes, from the Mediterranean coast and stone villages to greener, hillier parts of Herzegovina, offering participants a varied and dynamic experience.

A New Trend in Incentive Programmes: Experience with Value

Global trends in the business events industry are increasingly emphasising the importance of authentic experiences and personal engagement. For this reason, the concept of Camino routes is becoming increasingly attractive to incentive organisers.

Camino Dubrovnik offers added value by combining physical activity, time in nature and cultural heritage with elements of introspection and mental relaxation. For companies, this means the opportunity to create programmes that encourage team spirit, resilience and stronger connections among participants.

A major advantage of this route is its flexibility, it is possible to organise shorter sections or one-day programmes, depending on the goals and timeframe of the event, making Camino Dubrovnik adaptable to different types of incentive groups.

Dubrovnik as a Strong Starting Point for a Unique Experience

As a globally recognised destination, Dubrovnik provides the ideal introduction to this type of programme. The city offers top-level infrastructure, high-quality accommodation and a rich range of content, enabling the combination of business activities with the unique experience of the Camino route.

Participants can begin their journey in the historic setting of Dubrovnik and then continue into nature and a slower walking rhythm, creating a strong contrast that further enriches the overall experience.

By connecting Dubrovnik with Međugorje, one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in this part of Europe, Camino Dubrovnik also gains a strong international dimension. For incentive organisers, this means the possibility of designing programmes that go beyond traditional frameworks and offer participants an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
