At the beginning of the 11th century, a Benedictine monastery and church were established on the island of Lokrum.
From the pre-Romanesque church, only two fragments have been preserved, while from the later Romanesque Church of St. Mary, a wall and three semicircular apses remain. One of the apses still shows traces of frescoes.
Also preserved is a stone relief of the Annunciation from the 16th century.
The monastery opens on its eastern side with a large Gothic bifora window, and on the western side, visitors can explore a Renaissance cloister featuring late Gothic details.
