Dubrovnik for active holidays

DUBROVNIK FOR ACTIVE HOLIDAYS

Beyond its medieval walls and shimmering Adriatic coastline, Dubrovnik is a paradise for those looking to explore magnificent landscapes. From panoramic hilltop trails to rugged coastal paths, the region offers a mix of scenic routes for all levels of adventure seekers.

For the best views of the city, the Srđ mountain is a must. A steep but rewarding hike leads you 412 metres above sea level, where you’ll be treated to sweeping views over Dubrovnik, the Elaphite Islands, and beyond. If you prefer a gentler ascent, take the cable car up and hike down through the rocky terrain.

For a coastal adventure, the Lapad Peninsula offers an easy yet stunning trek or cycle through pine forests, past hidden coves, and along dramatic cliffs. More experienced hikers and cyclists can head south to Šipan Island, the largest of the Elaphite Islands, where ancient olive groves, charming villages, and historic ruins create an unrivalled setting for time spent in nature. The walking route along the Dubrovnik River (Rijeka Dubrovačka) offers a peaceful escape from the city’s crowds, following the scenic waterfront from the marina in Komolac to the historic summer residences in Rožat. The path winds past lush greenery, traditional stone houses, and the serene waters of the Ombla, one of the shortest rivers in the world.

Top Tip: Dubrovnik’s summer heat can be intense, so set off early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Always bring water, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes—some trails, especially those on Srđ, can be rocky and steep.
