Dubrovnik as a Centre of Contemporary Economic Thought – 7th International DIEM Conference

The Faculty of Economics at the University of Dubrovnik is organizing the seventh edition of the international scientific conference, Dubrovnik International Economic Meeting (DIEM 2025), under the theme "Resilience in Times of Global Economic Uncertainty – Challenges and Opportunities." The conference will take place from the 28th to the 30th of May 2025. Its goal is to bring together researchers from around the world to present the results of their empirical economic and social research on current economic issues.

DIEM is a biennial scientific conference that, since its first edition, has established itself as an important forum for the exchange of ideas, research results, and best practices in the fields of economics and the social sciences. This year, the event will be held in a hybrid format—both live in Dubrovnik and online—enabling an even wider reach and the participation of attendees from across the globe.

The Economy of Resilience in an Era of Global Uncertainty

The discussions at DIEM 2025 will centre on the resilience of economies in conditions of global instability. Participants will explore, through research papers and panels, how economies can adapt to inflationary pressures, supply chain disruptions, geopolitical instability, and rapid technological changes. Topics will also include sustainable development, the green economy, digital business transformation, and the challenges facing labour markets and management in the post-pandemic period.

The conference will be enriched by distinguished invited speakers. Among them are Frederic Marimon, Vice Dean at the Faculty of Economics at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) in Spain, who will discuss contemporary challenges in business sustainability and the importance of management quality during economic instability. Also featured is Vanessa Druskat, a professor from the University of New Hampshire, USA, known for her research on emotional intelligence and team dynamics, who will present insights into how emotional competence supports organizational resilience.

Dubrovnik – A City of Knowledge, Dialogue, and Innovation

The DIEM 2025 conference is primarily intended for scientists, researchers, doctoral students, and professionals in the fields of economics, management, and related disciplines, as well as for representatives of the public and private sectors seeking answers to everyday business challenges. The conclusions and recommendations arising from the presented papers and discussions will contribute to a better understanding of global economic trends and assist in shaping effective strategies at all levels.

As the backdrop for this important scientific event, Dubrovnik once again confirms its role in promoting education, dialogue, and innovation. Hosting the DIEM 2025 conference strengthens the role of the University of Dubrovnik as a regional reference point and encourages the positioning of the city as a centre of modern economic thought.
