The House of Marin Držić is a cultural institution of the City of Dubrovnik dedicated to the life and work of Marin Držić (1508–1567), the greatest Croatian playwright, one of the central figures of Croatian literature, and a major master of European Renaissance comedy.
The House stands in Široka ulica (Wide Street), beside the neighbouring Church of Domino (All Saints), on the site of a former residence historically connected with the church, where Držić himself served as rector from 1526 onward. Today, the building functions as his memorial house. Through its permanent exhibition Držić’s Life Stages and a programme of temporary exhibitions, the House presents the world and significance of this Renaissance author through visual displays and interpretive texts. The institution combines museum, research, publishing, performance, and education.
A central presence in Dubrovnik’s cultural life, the House of Marin Držić serves as a meeting point for research, performance, and public engagement with his legacy.
