Exhibition Opening: C as in Cycle
2026-04-09
A dreamlike, introspective expression in the Red Cycle continues to be recognized as characteristic of Lena's painting. An elegant line, combined with at times vivid and at times more delicate color palettes, consistently works together to create canvas surfaces that are revealed through numerous layers.
...
For Kramarić, a painting is not merely a flat image, but also matter. Structure, texture, scratches, damage—everything that "disrupts" the surface—simultaneously builds it in Lena's work. Layers, including fragile traces of tissue, remain visible, as if the artist refuses to conceal the process of her work. On the contrary, she insists on revealing the vulnerabilities of materials that accumulate one upon another. The surface of the painting thus becomes a site of memory, where every intervention is recorded as a trace of existence.
...
Lena Kramarić's painting does not offer resolutions. It moves between the conscious and the unconscious, between the need for form and its constant layering. Within this space of tension, the image emerges—as a trace of process, as a record of a state, as an attempt to retain the inexpressible on the surface. Ultimately, Lena Kramarić's painterly universe functions like an open text: the viewer does not read it linearly, but inhabits it, returns to it, and within it recognizes their own fractures and ascents.
