Dubrovnik once again becomes a grand stage this summer—this time for an adventure unlike anything you’ve seen before. In its twelfth season, the Midsummer Scene Festival brings “ONE FOR ALL” to the impressive Lovrjenac Fortress from June 24 to July 5—a fresh, playful, and witty adaptation of the timeless classic “The Three Musketeers.”

This is not just another traditional version of a well-known story. This is a theatrical spectacle that blurs the boundaries between actors, audience, and the very nature of performance. The story unfolds from the perspective of an aging D’Artagnan, who, by chance, finds himself imprisoned with an unusual troupe of actors. From this encounter, an explosion of imagination is born: the narrative breaks apart and reassembles before the audience’s eyes, transforming into a whirlwind of comedy, action, and improvisation.

Swords are only the beginning. Anything at hand becomes part of the fight—sticks, lids, pieces of set, even French bread—while the stage turns into a living, unpredictable playground that occasionally draws the audience into the action.

The text is written by Filip Krenus, the festival’s co-founder, while the production is directed by British director Sean Aita, marking his fourth Dubrovnik premiere. Their collaboration once again delivers the festival’s signature style: a blend of high-quality performance, British humor, and the unique Dubrovnik setting.

Over the years, the Midsummer Scene Festival has established itself as one of the most recognizable summer theatre events in Dubrovnik and beyond, presenting acclaimed English-language productions. Its unique concept—open-air theatre in the historic setting of Lovrjenac, with a focus on acting skill and powerful storytelling—has attracted international audiences and firmly positioned the festival on the city’s cultural map.

This year, the festival once again confirms its international character, as British actors and a creative team join forces with Dubrovnik artists, creating theatre that is both sophisticated and playful, accessible yet artistically strong.

It is a story about actors—their mistakes and triumphs—and about theatre that comes to life in front of the audience: vivid, untamed, and full of joy. At Lovrjenac Fortress, under the open sky and among centuries-old walls, Dubrovnik once again becomes a meeting place of history, art, and pure theatrical energy.
